Election Exhibit Resources
Friends of Petersburgh History (FoPH) is a volunteer group dedicated to preserving Petersburgh’s rich history and making it accessible to the public.  
 
The group works to achieve this goal through several different activities:
·         Curating exhibits for the display cabinet in the Town Hall meeting room 
·         Soliciting historic materials from members of the community
·         Sharing historical information at the annual Harvest Festival
·         Scanning and posting historic material on the Petersburgh Public Library’s website under the tab “Local History.”
This site provides access to documents, photographs, and other materials that were either donated or loaned to the Library for the public benefit and/or were already widely available elsewhere. You can access the information from any computer with internet access, including the computers at the Library.
·         Preserving and organizing the physical copies of historical records. These are available for use at the Petersburgh Public Library. They are part of the Library’s reference collection and can be viewed upon request.

FoPH Meetings
The group meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 4pm in the downstairs room of the Petersburgh Public Library. The meetings are open to the public. We welcome visitors and new members!

Evaluation of Items Offered for Loan or Donation
If you are interested in donating or loaning items of historical significance, or have historic documents that could be scanned and made available to the public through our webpage, please contact us so that we can evaluate whether they are in keeping with our mission. Please DO NOT bring items to the Library prior to speaking with a member of FoPH.  We have extremely limited storage facilities and cannot guarantee that your items will be well cared for if they are brought to the Library without prior review. 
 

Election Exhibit

2026 Election Exhibit

The Election Exhibit consists of a timeline that takes visitors from the Declaration of Independence in 1776 all the way to 2026. It also displays various historical political memorabilia and documentation with their origin ranging from the 19th to the 20th century. Some items are dating back to the campaign of the first County Executive; consist of presidential memorial and campaign buttons or campaign handouts of local political candidates. A voting machine used in the 1930s shows how far we have come with the process of collecting and counting votes.

Some of the items displayed are on loan from the Hart Cluett Museum in Troy, NY and the Louis Miller Museum in Hoosick Falls. The voting machine is the property of the Rensselaer County Board of Elections. The rest of the items are either the property of the Town of Petersburgh or its residents. The exhibit can be visited during Town Hall hours and can be found in the meeting room. A light switch to the right of the entrance to the meeting room illuminates the display cabinet for better viewing.
